A structured language for human capability development.
Santulan currently assesses seven domains of student capability. The framework makes developmental patterns visible, understandable and actionable — without reducing a person to a single label.
What you already see in class may have a capability behind it.
1 What do you notice?
Select what you notice to see the pattern.
2 What can follow if it stays unseen?
3 What changes when people are connected?
- Student
- Parent
- Teacher
- Counsellor
- School leadership
Illustrative pathways, not predictions: they describe what can happen, not what will happen to any student. Santulan is developmental, not diagnostic. See how it runs in a school
Development is multi-dimensional.
Body & Self-Regulation
It is not:
Read the pattern in context.
A domain result informs questions, reflection and development priorities. It is not a permanent identity statement or a stand-alone explanation of behaviour.
Assessment is the beginning of the development loop — not the end.
From structured observation to developmental action.
- 1
Observe
Collect structured information about current patterns.
- 2
Interpret
Translate results into understandable language.
- 3
Prioritise
Identify what matters most now.
- 4
Act
Convert priorities into concrete actions.
- 5
Review
Revisit progress and context.
- 6
Recalibrate
Update priorities as circumstances change.
Then the loop begins again, with a clearer picture each time.
Protect the learner from the misuse of assessment.
Santulan supports development and institutional decision support. It is not a clinical diagnosis.
A learner sees a profile of capabilities and priorities, not a single identity-defining score.
People, contexts and priorities change over time.
Assessment is one input. It does not override observation or professional judgement.
Interpretation connects to meaningful development priorities and support.
Students and institutions understand what is assessed, why, and how results are meant to be used.
The words we use, in everyday language.
Capability
Something a person can develop over time — such as managing stress, working with others or planning their own learning.
Domain
One of seven areas of capability that Santulan looks at. Each is a lens, not a verdict.
Longitudinal
Followed across months and years, instead of captured once.
Cohort
A group of students, such as a grade or batch, seen together as a pattern.
Aggregated
Combined across many students so that no individual can be picked out.
Developmental, not diagnostic
Built to guide growth and support — never to label or to diagnose.
Scientific credibility requires visible boundaries.
Santulan is early-stage, and we say so. This is where each part of the framework stands today, with no rounding up. We update it as evidence is completed.
Santulan supports development and institutional decision support. It does not substitute for clinical assessment.

The domains and how they relate, shown above.
Santulan Assessments and role views
The Santulan Assessments engine is built; role views are being completed.
Pilot data collection
Gathering data in real school settings.
Reliability & validity studies
Follows the pilot. Results will be published here.
Methodology & validation report
Construct definitions, scoring logic, populations and limits.
The value is not in seven domain names. It is in what people can do with the insight.
